Hattiesburg, MS (May 20, 2025) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - National Road Trip Day is Friday, May 23rd and the Sixth Street Museum District will be recognizing Hattiesburg, MS, Green-Book
(The Negro Motorist Green-Book) sites that made travel easier for African Americans during segregation in the United States.
The Sixth Street Museum District has formalized a program recognizing the sites with official markers, a driving tour narrated by Dr. Clarence Magee, Hattiesburg educator and longtime President of the NAACP Forrest County Branch and a history of each site available through the website Green Book | Historic Eureka School.

The announcement of the following day’s presentation by Dr. Gretchen Sorin, author of Driving While Black: African American Travel and the Road to Civil Rights, which will take place Saturday, May 24th at 10:00 a.m. at the Historic Eureka School.
After Dr. Sorin’s presentation, a limited number of Shoebox lunches will be given to attendees so they can enjoy their meal while experiencing the driving tour.
