African American Military History Museum Unveils “Not Forgotten” Exhibit

The African American Military History Museum will unveil “Not Forgotten”, an exhibit honoring twelve WWII servicemen, from Mississippi, who were killed in action while serving overseas. All twelve servicemen were buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery.

The exhibit, curated by Natalie Ponder, Museum Collections and exhibition Specialist will be featured in the display cases in the lobby of the museum, and will be on display from May 23 through August 3.  “We are hoping that visitors to the museum will be able to identify relatives of the men featured in the exhibit,” said Latoya Norman, Director of Museums for the Hattiesburg Convention Commission.

The African American Military History Museum will be open special hours on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th from 12:00 noon – 3:00 p.m.  “We believe it is important for us to be open on Memorial Day so that guests can tour the museum and remember the sacrifices made by servicemen and women,” said Norman.  “We hope that families will stop by on this special day to learn more about the role African American men and women have played in military service to our country.”
