2014 Purple Parrot Cafe Wine Festival benefiting Extra Table

The Purple Parrot Café’ will host their 10th Annual Purple Parrot Wine Festival benefiting Extra Table on Friday, April 4, 2014  from 6-9pm at their newest up-and-coming location Branch located in Midtown Hattiesburg, MS.  Last year was the first year that the Purple Parrot Café teamed up with Extra Table, a 501c3 non-profit, founded by Chef, Author, Restaurateur, and Proprietor of Branch and Purple Parrot Café, Robert St. John.  

The Purple Parrot Café Wine Festival is the biggest wine event held in the state of Mississippi. It is, by far, one of the largest and best in the Southeastern region, attracting hundreds of wine aficionados and novices from around the world. “We feel very fortunate to have an event of this magnitude in Hattiesburg for the 10th straight year,” says Purple Parrot Café Sommelier, Beverage Director, and General Manager, Dusty Frierson. Over 35 wine makers from all around the world are traveling to Mississippi for the event, and over 100 wines will be available for tasting.  “We have winemakers coming from nine different countries and four states,” says Frierson. As you peruse through the Wine Festival to the Branch patio, you will also enjoy a special menu of heavy hors d’oeuvres prepared by Purple Parrot Café’s Chef de Cuisine, Jeremy Noffke.

Mississippi leads the nation in hunger. St. John’s goal is to help-- not only-- fight the battle to end hunger but also provide nutritious food to those in need while simultaneously driving down obesity. Extra Table’s dynamic partnership with Sysco,  the largest food distributors in the country, allows their mission to be successful. In the past, the Purple Parrot Wine Festival has been a huge success, and the Purple Parrot Café promises to make this year’s Wine Festival benefiting Extra Table bigger and better as 100% net proceeds from the event will go to Extra Table. 

The 10th Annual Purple Parrot Café Wine Festival Benefiting Extra Table is a great opportunity for the wine fans of South Mississippi to be able to taste and enjoy an array of varied wines. “I really hope the community will come out and support this event and show these winemakers that Hattiesburg deserves to be on the wine map,” adds Frierson. They are able to discuss the wines with the actual winemakers which makes the event so unique and special. “It’s for a good cause – and it’s a great bargain,” says Forbes Magazine.
