DESCRIPTION:Did you know that 1 in 6 individuals have a sensory need or an invisible disability?  Sensory needs are a common medical condition in which the brain has trouble receiving and responding to information that comes in through the senses\, which is why Sunday\, April 11 has been designated as Sensory Sunday at the Hattiesburg Zoo.  \n\n \n\nThe Hattiesburg Zoo staff has been trained by leading professionals to recognize guests with sensory needs and how to handle any sensory overload situations that may occur. The zoo is a bustling attraction\, filled with lots of sounds and movement that can trigger an adverse reaction in someone with sensory sensitivities\, so we are making Sensory Sunday at the zoo as calm and quiet as possible.\n\n \n\nOn April 11\, we will offer fun sensory activities\, quiet train rides\, animal encounters\, and will reduce sound volume in some exhibits. This event takes place during regular zoo hours from 10AM - 4PM. We are more prepared than ever to assist guests with sensory sensitivities and all will be welcomed with comfort and accommodation.\n\n \n\nSensory bags\, which are designed to help sensory needs in both children and adults will be available. The bags are equipped with noise-cancelling headphones\, fidget tools\, verbal cue cards\, and weighted lap pads all of which can help lessen sensory overload and help to engage the individual. We also offer 4 different quiet areas and 5 headphone zones within the zoo for the convenience of these guests.  There is no additional charge for Sensory Sunday.  Only zoo admission rates apply.  \n\n \n\nThe Hattiesburg Zoo was the first attraction/destination in Mississippi to be certified as a sensory inclusive location by Kulture City.\n\n__________\n\nThe Hattiesburg Zoo is an attraction of the Hattiesburg Convention Commission\, in partnership with the City of Hattiesburg.
